2008
We are most appreciative of your presence tonight. You will witness a
double-header event: First, the crowning of our new 2008 Miss Oahu
Filipina; secondly; the swearing in of the Oahu Filipino Community
Council [OFCC] officers and president's of OFCC member unit
organizations.
This year our Miss Oahu Filipina 2008, Miss Krystle Acido, won the most
coveted title as Miss Hawaii Filipina 2008. Tonight we are crowning our
new 2008 Miss Oahu Filipina Bianca Castillo.
We, the officers and members of OFCC, are faced with the challenge to
show the stalwart founders of OFCC that we are on track in accomplishing
the goals and missions they envisioned 49 years ago:
To promote and perpetuate the Filipino cultural heritage
To help unite all Filipino organizations for the common welfare of the
Filipino community
To encourage the Filipinos to develop a strong sense of responsibility
and a greater participation for the betterment of the Filipino community
and the Island of Oahu as a whole.
We will be celebrating the Golden Jubilee of the founding of OFCC next
year. It is therefore befitting that our theme tonight is "Make It
Happen". We celebrated the 100th year of the arrival of our forefathers
[the Sakadas] in Hawaii in 2006 show casing their rise from the lowly
and menial labor to the achievements of their children and children's'
children as illustrated in the life story of our First Filipino
Governor, Former Governor Benjamin J. Cayetano. The OFCC goals and
missions parallels the vision of our forefathers. Our efforts will
gravitate towards projects for the youth for they are our hope. We look
forward to collaborating with Filipino Community Center, Inc. with their
culture programs geared for the youth.
We owe it to our children's children to pass on the legacy of hard work,
determination and perseverance. We can proudly say that OFCC, through
its many projects such as the Miss Oahu Filipina Scholarship pageant,
collaboration with MOTTEP, voter registration and advocacy groups and
participation in the legislative process, to name a few, we have been
able to continue the visions of our forefathers. We salute our founders
for without their wit and ingenuity, we would not be able to gauge our
progress in our island paradise.
We thank all generous sponsors and supporters. Please continue to assist
us make the vision of the OFCC founders come to fruition. I would also
like to personally express my gratitude to all the officers and members
who have consistently committed and dedicated time, effort, talent and
resources to accomplish our goals. To their families, we appreciate your
understanding and most importantly, your cooperation.
